The Harris-Stowe State University Alumni Association, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) Not-For-Profit Corporation. Formed in 1980 by a group of educators, the organization was established for the purpose of developing and implementing the educational goals of Harris-Stowe State College, a teachers college at the time, now Harris-Stowe State University. This organization acts as a source of leadership in the educational and civic life of the St. Louis community with special emphasis on the needs of urban education; providing active leadership in securing scholarship funds; awarding such scholarship funds to appropriate persons taking into consideration financial need, scholastic achievement, community responsibility and such other guidelines as may be established in the by-laws; and generally serving as an adviser, consultant and advocate of the University, its students, its faculty and administration.
Today, that same mission and vision of the organization is still being observed. It is being fulfilled not just by education graduates, but also by business graduates, of the expanded degree programs first offered in 1993. Despite the memberships' different career ambitions, they are all committed to the standard of excellence set forth many years ago.
